Over the last two weeks, the football program hosted two alumni events on teams to give current athletes the chance to discuss club history, university life, and careers with club members that have come before them. We had a chance to hear from alumni working in a wide variety of careers; each having a unique story to tell about their time at St Andrews and their journey after.

The first session was targeted toward third-year, fourth-year, and postgraduate students, and was directed toward careers and life after university. Throughout the two-hour event, we had a chance to hear from Sarah Clark, Stephen Deland, Taylor Gillespie, Gregor Smith, Rebecca Mitchell, Daryl McKinley, Kate Little, Oliver Gill, and Caroline Mckechnie. Each told their experiences about how being a student at St Andrews and a member of the football club led them to where they are today. They also gave students advice on how to market themselves to employers, how to pick the right career, and how to nail it in the interview.

Club members had the chance to ask questions of the panelists and were given valuable advice from the alumni who knew exactly what they were experiencing.

The second session was targeted toward first and second years, and sought to give the students a better understanding of the club’s history, how being in the club can help you as a student and as a person, along with advice on looking for careers and internships. In this event, we were able to hear from Eloise Lobenthal, Sarah Clark, Sophia Russo, Ashley Streit, Rebecca Mitchell, Oliver Gill, Gregor Smith, Sam Blitz, and Daniel Pilley. Each reflected on how much the club has grown over the last ten years, the value and experience they gained from participating on the committee and in club events, and how being a member of the club has led them to where they are today. Students also had a chance to ask questions of the panelists, and had many great conversations about the direction of the club, job searches, and more.

Across both events, alumni encouraged current players to reach out at any time to ask about careers, life after university, or even the club!

We are really grateful that our football family feels so close despite its members and alumni being spread around the world at this moment.

We can not thank our amazing alumni enough for participating in these events and we can’t wait for the next one!
