Congratulations to the Men’s 1st Team Squad on winning the Scottish Student Sport Conference Cup Final yesterday as they defeated Strathclyde 1s by 2-0 goals. The match started off in bizarre fashion as a torrential hail stone storm came down during the first 10 minutes of the game which made conditions difficult for those both playing and watching. After the conditions improved, it was the visitors to University Park that made the brighter of the openings through keeping better possession of the ball. Despite this, the away side only had one chance of note to show which came following a switch of play to the Strathclyde left winger who beat his marker to deliver a good cross into the box only for the forward to side foot past the post from 8 yards out.

After this the Saints settled and started to take the game to the opposition. Gilmore had a good chance following some creative free kick play involving Weiss and Gray which resulted in the goalkeeper making a good block. The opening goal of the game came just before the break and came from 1st year forward Seb Ratzan who converted with a composed finish from 15 yards following good work from the coaches man of the match Tom Grant.

Into the second half and with the Saints going up the hill they were determined to hold on to their lead and win the cup for the first time in 4 years. This task was made easier when Flynn Gray added a second goal just after the hour mark with a superb half volley using the outside of his foot from just outside the box. After that the Saints did a professional and hard working job to nulify any Strathclyde threat to see the game out and win.

Well done to all the players and staff involved on this superb achievement and finishes the Bucs season off on a high note. It was also a great ending for those playing in their last Bucs match for the club, Montanaro, Gilmore, McCallion and Andrews to which we thank for all the contributions in their time with our club.

All that was left was for Captain Findlay Tough, joined by popular team mate and cancer survivor Charlie Andrews, to lift the Conference Cup!
